Under the invitation of Kaunas Comics Residency (KCR), Liisa Kruusmägi (EE) will be undertaking a creative residency in Kaunas. Throughout the month, the artist is visiting various places in Kaunas and creating a story, inspired by architecture, nature and people. On Wednesday 30 May 6.30 pm Kaunas Artists’ House will host an opening of L. Kruusmägi’s exhibition and the launch of a zine that was created during the residency and printed at Kitokia Grafika studio using the risograph method. The event will be followed by a talk with the artist, hosted by James McGeever, a KTU lecturer working with community based cultural projects.
This event is a part of a series that follow the establishing of the KAH infocentre. The Cultural Information Centre (Infocentre) of KAH is a new platform launched dedicated to the dissemination and coordination of cultural events and art information in Kaunas city. In accordance with the cultural strategy of Kaunas city, the activities of the Infocentre are focused not only on encouraging the city’s residents’ and guests’ involvement and interest in the cultural and creative industries of Kaunas city and region, but also on improving the communication between local cultural professionals, facilitating the exchange of experience and resources.
Aside from this project, L. Kruusmägi invited the residents of Kaunas to an open comics workshop.The participants of the workshop had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of drawing games and experiments the artist uses in the workshops she conducts in Estonia with the MUST JOON artistic collective.
Liisa Kruusmägi is an Estonian artist working in the mediums of painting, illustration and comics. Her main creative inspiration is traveling. While traveling throughout the world the artist has participated in a variety of exhibitions and collaborations that move beyond the framework of illustration – Liisa Kruusmägi has also created performance art, animation and sculpture works.
The exhibition runs until 13 June.
