49 bells, telling stories in music from the top of a bell tower – that is the carillon of Kaunas city. The carillon has inspired Kaunas city residents and guests to take a break from their everyday rush in the ever-green Vytautas the Great War Museum garden for 82 years, whilst also drawing them into a different kind of rhythm – one full of discoveries, meditative time and melody-like encounters.
Kaunas Artists’ House is pleased to continue this tradition and invite you to wish summer a farewell in the third Kaunas International Carillon Music Festival, taking place on 31 August – 1 September at Vytautas the Great War Museum garden (K. Donelaičio st. 64).
This year the festival aims to continue presenting the broad spectre of possibilities that this instrument offers – the carillon will be played by both well-known Lithuanian carillonists and guests from abroad, showcasing carefully prepared programmes filled with discoveries: Iryna Riabchun, Anna Kasprzycka, Julius Vilnonis, Stanislovas Žilevičius and Marius Šinkūnas.
Some of the the main attractions this year will be an evening concert, a dialogue between the bells and the vibraphone, taking place in front of the colourfully lit bell tower. The festival will also feature educational programmes provided by its partners, Vytautas the Great War Museum and M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art.
All festival events are free to attend. The full programme will be announced shortly.
Kaunas International Carillon Festival is organised by Kaunas Artists’ House.
