CRRNT is a concert series dedicated to new live contemporary music and musical improvisation. On the 18th of October, 7 pm Kaunas Artists’ House will host two exciting duets: the mysterious project “jūra ir mėta” (Jūra Elena Šedytė ir Mėta Gabrielė Pelegrimaitė) and a concoction of musical reactions “ach, Ema” (Dainora Aleksaitė ir Deividas Pakulnis).

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

“jūra ir mėta” (vox/flute/eff)

Jūra and Mėta have been separated by a thousand kilometres for more than a month now. This project is a mystery not only for the listeners, but the performers themselves – be prepared for a lot of surprises. Vocals and flute, effects and vocals, flute and effects, effects with effects… samples? For now it’s clear that there are going to be microphones.

Jūra Elena Šedytė is an active composer of the young generation currently based in Copenhagen. Her compositions have been played in various contemporary music festivals. She also actively participates in local and foreign creative workshops and collaborates with young artists from various art fields: contemporary circus, contemporary dance, theatre, and cinema. Currently, Jūra is becoming increasingly involved in performing activity – by using her voice and electronics, she performs pieces of her own and of others.

Mėta Gabrielė Pelegrimaitė at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Jazz department, saxophonist Liudas Mockūnas’s course. In the last year of her undergraduate degree she joined a contemporary music ensemble comprised of Master’s degree students and has been actively participating in concerts and various projects ever since. In July 2018 she performed at Soulkrasti Jazz Festival and Kaunas Artists’ House as part of a free improvisation ensemble. She has been studying free improvisation at the Contemporary Music department of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre since September 2018.

“ach, Ema”

“ach, Ema” is a collaboration of musical concoctions between Dainora Aleksaitė and Deividas Pakulnis, both of whom are based in Jonava. The duo’s creative output it a combination of urban sound recordings, electronica and live sound (violin, vocals).

Dainora Aleksaitė creates melancholic, at times, uncomfortable moments of sound. Her pieces showcase a subtle rhythm, drones of the violin and viola, and vocal glitches. She graduated in the violin from Kaunas Juozas Gruodis Conservatory. From 2012 actively performed alongside acoustic rock band “Mankur” and sung poetry artist Ieva Prūsaitė. Since 2016 Dainora has been studying composition studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and is currently enhancing her knowledge of electro-acoustic composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Deividas Pakulnis (Arfao). The duality of heavy and rough industrial echoes alongside the shrillness of dreamy shoegaze. Harmonious noise, distortion, wholeness and idm glitches. The conflict with oneself. Disrupting the notion of musical firmness and pseudo-artistic beliefs into pieces. It’s a musical confrontation with the listener.
