DeMo rezidencies: A Guide to Breathing
2021-06-29/11:00 - 19:00
On 29-30th of June Kaunas Artist ‘s House kindly invites you to join current “DeMo” resident Marija Markovic (Serbia) in her interactive installation, which will take place at the A building’s entrance hall of the BLC business centre in Kaunas. The installation will conclude the artist’s 3-week residency here at KAH.
Marija Markovic: “The horrific scenes of climate change from all over the world confront us with questions such as the ownership of the air. What are our existential minimum requirements for today’s living conditions today? What connexion, if any, is there between our ‘stability’ and our political consciousness?”
The artist’s installation “Breathing Guide” creates an atmosphere of panic caused by air pollution. In the event of a panic attack, a therapist’s voice will be played at the facility to guide you on how to calm down. During the installation, images of the accumulating smog are displayed at a rate of 120 times per minute – the minimum heart rate during panic episodes. In this way, Marija visualizes the words of climate change activist Greto Thunberg: “I want you to panic.”
Kaunas Artists’ House, in cooperation with the Cultural Center LAB in Novi Sad (Serbia), Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture 2022, is implementing the artists’ reciprocal residency programme DeMo (Decoding Modernity) on the theme of EXISTENZMINIMUM.
Reciprocal Residency DeMo is a part of “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” programme.
