Infobooks: Presentation of Gerda Jord’s book „Daugiabutis“(2019)

2019-11-21/18:00 - 20:00

On 21 November, 6 pm Kaunas Artists’ House invites to a meeting of event series InfoBooks, co-curated with the Lithuanian Writers’ Union – a presentation of the graphic novel “Daugiabutis” (2019) together with the author Gerda Jord. The event will be moderated by literary critic Emilija Viscokaitė. The event will be held in Lithuanian, however, you’re welcome to attend with your Lithuanian – English translator!

How did “Daugiabutis” come about? What got in the book and what was left behind the scenes? You will learn more about it during the presentation.

Adult-oriented graphic novel “Daugiabutis” is the third book by G. Jord and is inspired by her ten-year experiences of renting flats in the apartment blocks of the capital Vilnius.

Although the apartment block is in an emergency condition and is already counting down its final days, it is still willingly leased to students. Meanwhile, the old-timers do not intend to move anywhere as well. The fates of the apartment dwellers intertwine with the embroiled network of criminal secrets. Gradually it becomes quite clear who knits it …

In the comic, black humour revitalizes the spirit of bedroom neighbourhoods and helps to take a new look into the apartment blocks mythology, stagnation and change in Soviet architecture and the current bubble of the metropolitan real estate market.

Gerda Jord came to Vilnius from Marijampolė in 2007. Since then she rented rooms and apartments in 11 different houses, of which 6 were old apartment blocks. She is currently studying Lithuanian Philology at Vilnius University,

Animation at Vilnius Art Academy, also she worked in advertising and public relations, makes comics for adults. Previously, the author published a critically acclaimed graphic novel, “Gertrūda: Grafinis Y kartos dienoraštis“ (Obuolys, 2016), and together with Miglė Anusauskaitė won the Patriots’ Prize for the comic book “10 litų” (Aukso Žuvys, 2014). Gerda also translated McCloud’s bestseller “World What Are Comics? History, Structure, Impact ” MO Museum, 2018).
