The event will be held in Lithuanian, however you’re welcome to attend with your Lithuanian – English translator!
“Undinės” is the second prose book by J. Tumasonytė, published after the eight-year break. This year, the book was selected into the Book of the Year’s top 5 list of adult fiction.
“Undinės” shows Jurga Tumasonytė’s shift from smaller to larger works, following the Lithuanian short story tradition. Her realistic stories have a sense of the relativity of phenomena, the duality of circumstances, elements of fantasy and magical realism. The writer skillfully lays out notional highlights, often using the angles of unexpectedness and strangeness. The combination of traditional Lithuanian lyricism, conditional elements, and plot constructions is an advantage of the writer’s stylistics, and in some cases – a novelty, which expands the possibilities of contemporary prose.
Having made her debut in the cultural press in 2007, J. Tumasonytė has been an active contributor to various publications and websites, publishing interviews with Lithuanian and foreign creators, and writing cultural reviews.
Last year, the writer, along with designer Tadas Karpavičius, published a small book Knygyno istorijos, which featured real-time conversations with visitors to the bookstore eureka! where she still works part-time.
J. Tumasonytė’s texts are translated into Estonian, German, Russian, Croatian and English.
