NICHE ⑉⑇ Contemporary music event series

Sound, among many other forms of energy, embodies space. It moves through it, it is absorbed, diffused and reflected by the walls and their inhabitants. However, sound vibrates further and deeper than our geometric interiors: it slips outside doors and crevices, intrudes and welcomes, moreover penetrates straight into our bodies. Eventually our thoughts and emotions too. Whether through music or noise “it reverberates acoustically, and structures socially, for sound amplifies and silences, contorts and distorts and pushes against architecture”*. Sound shapes the subtle ecosystems of space.

With the attention towards the spatial relations of sound, the fourth season of Niche invites to trace the dynamics of sound in space: think of how architecture shapes our listening experience, and how sound shapes the architectural programs of our interiors? How does music and environment interact through material, social and aural dimensions? To heighten our awareness towards these interrelations Niche presents four site-specific concerts, shuffling through diverse contexts of sound and space: architectural acoustics and resonances, spatial composition and electroacoustic music, transformative atmospheres and dialogues through body, movement and rhythm.
