NICHE | AGATHUM koncertas

NICHE 2026 ⑉⑇ ANDREW PEKLER, GIULIA RAE

This spring, the contemporary music concert series NICHE returns for its fourth edition. This year, the programme expands, inviting audiences to four site-specific concerts held in unique Kaunas architectural sites.

The program, curated by Adomas Palekas and Edvinas Grinkevičius, invites to trace the dynamic relationships of sound in space, exploring how architecture shapes our listening experience and how music and environment interact through material, social, and aural dimensions. The cycle presents four distinct concerts, all travelling through diverse sonic contexts: architectural acoustics and resonances, spatial composition and electroacoustic music, spaces of transformation and anthropogenic soundscapes, dialogues through body, movement, and rhythm.

The second concert in the series will take place on April 22 at the AGATHUM event hall (25 I. Kanto St., Kaunas). Drawing on the tradition of electroacoustic music, this concert invites the audience to experience space as a compositional dimension and to engage in an acousmatic listening experience—one that separates sound from performativity.
The concert will feature two representatives of electroacoustic music: Andrew Pekler (Berlin), who will perform live pieces from his latest album New Environments & Rhythm Studies, and Giulia Rae (Brussels), who will present a unique spatial sound program designed for an eight-channel sound system.

Andrew Pekler works with sampling and synthesis to produce texturally rich and sensually evocative sound compositions. Pekler's familiar palette of synthetic field recordings, warm, undulating electronic textures, shifting percussion patterns and serene melodies.

Giulia Rae is a sound artist based in Brussels. Fundamentally nourished by the Italian underground music scene, she later expanded her path internationally, performing live and presenting her acousmatic music. Grounded in creative coding, Giulia Rae’s current touch on sound embraces the possibilities given by human-machine interaction to craft sonic environments characterised by intricate and fragmented textures, rarefied pulsations and enveloping bass.
