Memory Exercise ❖ Kaunas Artists' House birthday week
Kaunas Artists' House is like a living body of the city's culture, carrying stories, experiences, and artistic discoveries that touch us, inspire us, and maintain the link between the past and the present. This year, from 25-29 November, we invite you to join us for a special birthday week dedicated not only to remembering the history of the Artists' House but also to rethinking what it means to us today. It will be an opportunity to reflect on the importance of this space for us and the role it plays in our city's cultural scenarios.
In this birthday week, we will exercise our memory together and remember that history is not only the past but also the present that is created in everyday life and that the Artists' House is a place where art and community come together to form a living, ever-changing narrative.
We invite you to be a part of this story and visit Kaunas Artists' House on 25-29 November - to immerse yourself in a memory yoga session as a journey through art, feelings, and our own experiences in the Artists' House.
PROGRAMME
25 November, 18:30 Kaunas Artists' House will host the last event of this year's series of events between artists and cultural management professionals "Meetings", dedicated to the topic of burnout.
In the first part of the event, medical psychologist Eglė Rojienė will talk about the phenomenon of burnout and how to recognise it in time and help yourself. In the second part, cultural producer Klaudija Aleksandravičiūtė will share her personal experience of what it means to experience burnout.
The overwhelming workload and the constant pressure to achieve high results can become a huge emotional burden leading to burnout. This lecture will help anyone dealing with intense activity to recognise the signs of burnout and discover ways to maintain a healthy relationship with work. We will discuss how chronic stress affects our productivity and explore tools to help restore balance and avoid burnout. You will learn how burnout affects your daily well-being and how to stay motivated even in challenging phases. Join us to find out how to keep your energy up and avoid the dangers of burnout.
The event is free. The event will be held in Lithuanian.
This time the slam is special because it is part of the birthday week programme of Kaunas Artists' House, where every rhyme and verse can become an ode to this creative space (it is not necessary, but karma points are guaranteed).
Perhaps you'll write about high ceilings, interiors, or unheard KMN secrets? Come on 26 November at 7 pm and conquer the stage - make poetry sound like nowhere else!

The event is a part of the literature education program "Trenksmas" and is carried out in cooperation with Šiauliai Art Gallery, Tauragė Region Museum "Santaka", "Begemotas", cafe "Coffas", independent art platform "FAZĖ". The program is supported by the Lithuanian Council of Culture.
Kaunas Artists’ House, together with ArchiTextura LAB, is opening an exhibition–research titled "City Memory Laboratory" featuring five creators.
The opening of the exhibition is on November 27 at 6 PM.
The exhibition runs until December 20 (except on December 7 and 8).
The basis for the exhibition is the impact of the traditional media (photography, radio, film) on the imagination of Kaunas residents over the past 150 years, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century. The team of artists interprets the various conventions of city documentation prevalent in different epochs through contemporary perspectives and tools, aiming to bridge historical iconography with a modern mediated view, seeking to understand the architectural and urban phenomenon of the city hidden in collective memory.
The exhibition showcases works created by artists through creative workshops and expeditions around Kaunas made in photography, sound, audiovisual media, and interactive objects that allow for a fresh perspective on the documented urban heritage and open up new questions:
- How do we remember widely disseminated fragments of the city that were widespread in the past?
- How does the high turnover of contemporary mass images and sounds influence our memory?
- How does our memory change and mutate with the evolving means of documentation of our environment?

The final event of the program "Belly-up Dream (Dog or Fish?)" will take place on November 28 at 6:30 PM, featuring the opening of a multi-layered exhibition by Finnish artist Kristoffer Ala-Ketola. The exhibition opening will be complemented by a special performance by Estonian oboist and performance artist Gregor Kulla at 7 PM.
Through this exhibition, the artist will explore the biomorphic, the mysterious, and the psyche’s adaptation to life’s challenges through moving images, sculpture, and painting. Ala-Ketola’s work, presented as a mind map of interwoven forms, employs exoskeleton and medieval armor motifs to explore vulnerability and strength.
His pieces draw connections between the resilience of nature, as seen in crustacean exoskeletons, and human-made armor—both representing protective instincts and transformative potential. Ala-Ketola’s work particularly resonates with queer culture’s themes of self-protection and evolution, inviting viewers to reflect on their own resilience.
Special Performance: Recital by Gregor Kulla - 7:00 PM
Gregor Kulla’s works address the disparity between contemporary queer forms of performance and those dominant in classical performance and music, both broadly and in Estonia. Kulla’s Recital will juxtapose their electronic music compositions with an archive of classical experimental music, which will be accompanied by their live oboe performance. Recital reflects on tantric practices and feminine power as depicted in different mythologies, narrated around the notion of rebirth and its connection to time, change, and death.
