The interest in corals and the marine world was born out of a concern for other than human forms of life. My long term research looked into the problem of coral bleaching, caused by natural changes and the devastating effects of human activities. The idea that corals are not only a species, but also home to other species, has revealed an important insight about the interdependence of different life forms. Scientifically, corals are classified into hard and soft types, meanwhile fragility is a characteristic feature of their survival. These qualities, characteristic to corals, inform the search for materiality and dramaturgy of the performance. In this work, I am looking for how the space, created through sound and embodiment, can generate a different kind of sensitivity towards other than human life forms. The poetic metaphors of sound and movement allow us to get close to the ocean, to imagine and listen. In the work I am looking for how the space created by various performative tools can help destabilise the human body and create a different sensibility.

Gabrielė Bagdonaitė is a Lithuanian dance artist, performer, and choreographer. In 2023, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Gabrielė has collaborated with internationally recognized choreographers, including Rósa Ómarsdóttir, Liza Baliasnaja, Alexandra Pirici, Agnietė Lisičkinaitė, and Greta Grinevičiūtė (Be kompanijos). In her artistic practice, she explores the more-than-human world and embodies various natural organisms, with a particular focus on holobionts. Through poetic metaphors of movement and sound, she seeks to foster a sensitive and empathetic relationship with the environment that surrounds us. In her ongoing research, Gabrielė combines soundscape creation and movement practices. These elements intertwine with imagination, forming a distinctive artistic language that helps to create new connections between human and more-than-human worlds. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Dance in Belgium.

Putvinskis' Street Day events are funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Kaunas City Municipality.
