Unforgettable colors, glitter, and uncomfortably real experiences that don't exist to many: queer culture is full of stage-worthy aesthetics and everyday dramatic experiences. “Rainbow Musical” aims to combine all of the above—it’s a musical performance created on community principles and aiming to grow into a contemporary musical. “Our voices are often drowned out by the cacophony of prejudice and discrimination, and what is most visible to the rest of the society is what we don't have—rights, marriage, security. Through the voices of queer people “Rainbow Musical” will show what we do have: unique history, unbreakable community and love that grows stronger with every attempt to limit it,” shares Asta Volungė, organizer-producer of the project and curator of activities promoting tolerance and equality at Kaunas Artists' House.

The project team consists of creators and organizers known to the queer community and most of whom actively participate in it: Greta Štiormer, Gabrielė Labanauskaitė, Jūra Elena Šedytė, Vika Matuzaitė and Asta Volungė. Alongside the unifying feeling that our experiences are worthy not only of nightclubs but of the main stages as well, the team strives for a performance where queer people speak, instead of being spoken about.

“We believe that Lithuanian queer community deserves its own musical, and the public deserves an opportunity to experience the uniqueness of our culture and the depth of experiences, so members and friends of the LGBTQ+ community are invited to actively contribute: we welcome those who are thirsty for the stage and behind the scenes, as well as ideological and financial supporters.” – author of the idea and director G. Štiormer shares the invitation.

The creative team of “Rainbow Musical” welcomes everyone who considers themselves to be members of the queer community—stage professionals, amateurs, and those who have never been on stage but want to try. Using real experiences, stories and aesthetics, all participants with the professional team will create the musical performance together: from the title to the content and form. Everyone with useful skills, experience or ideas are welcome to join—the open call is not limited to performers. More information and the open call form can be found here.

Open call deadline is March 25.
